TaylorMade Spider GT Putters

A New Identity And Performance

Once upon a time, TaylorMade struggled to gain a foothold with putter marketshare, then along came an Itsy Bitsy Spider and TaylorMade found its pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Jason Day and Dustin Johnson’s winning ways with Spider putters saw pros ditching the precision of blade putters for the alignment, forgiveness, stability and roll consistency of unconventionally shaped Spider mallets. TaylorMade helped convince golfers to make the switch with the clever inclusion of hosel options that married the feel and release of a toe hang putter with the forgiveness of a mallet.

The high-MOI Spider mallet was always about fully optimising weight distribution and not about the looks, hence the liberal use of multi-materials that include lightweight aluminium, steel and liberal use of heavy tungsten for extreme stability.

And for 2022, TaylorMade set out to do the same yet again, reimagining the iconic wire-framed shape of the Spider putter carrying the familiar moniker but not the look. The four models set a new standard of performance and contemporary construction, headlined by a Spider GT with its modern wing design and ultra-lightweight top plate, followed by the more familiar shaped half-mallet Spider GT Notchback, the half-moon shaped Spider GT Rollback, and the parallel-winged Spider GT Splitback.

“Innovation has long been the bloodline of the Spider franchise. From its optimised stability frame to its countless victories on worldwide tours, every Spider putter is designed to deliver pure performance. With Spider GT, we have created our most angular and most stable Spider ever using a new modern wing construction similar to other high stability Spider putters of the past. With the removal of weight from the centre of Spider GT, we have unlocked higher MOI and more stability from every angle.”
– Bill Price, Senior Director Product Creation, Putters

Across the Spider GT range, the face features a Pure Roll² insert for improved forward roll and ball speed consistency across the face. The insert’s slightly firmer black TPU urethane compensates for the feel of softer modern balls. Eight aluminium beams embedded at a 45° angle improve topspin across the face. The beams flex freely at impact to launch the ball to off the face with less backspin, and develop an efficient forward roll more quickly.

The Fluted Feel™ shafts have a softer section located 5” from the tip to enhance feel, boost stability and improve dispersion. Developed in conjunction with KBS, the shafts are a modern representation of what was first seen on the Bullseye putters of old.

Neck options include the single bend hosel best suited to a straighter putting stroke. The new short slant hosel generates varying degrees of toe hang depending on the model and best fits an arcing putting stroke.

The grip is the Super Stroke GT 1.0 (men’s) and Super Stroke GTR 1.0 (women’s)

New headcovers feature a magnetic closure in place of velcro to provide a more premium and durable feel.

Spider GT
An utralight aluminium top plate with short sightline removes weight from the middle of the putter, and in combination with the open frame multi-material design features two 90g steel side weights that push 82% of total weight to the perimeter, creating extreme stability even on off-centre strikes.

The distinctive 6061 aluminium top plate sports both a premium look and increased durability in four anodised finishes of silver, black, red and white for the women’s model, which also features a three-dot sightline for alignment.

Spider GT Notchback
This compact and time-honoured shape has a forward CG for easier face rotation. The lightweight 6061 aluminium body strategically places 86g dual-tungsten weights on the heel and toe for high stability, forgiveness, distance control. It’s the highest MOI ever for a mid-size mallet Spider.

Spider GT Rollback
The classic half-moon design incorporates an 80g tungsten rollbar that wraps around the back and side of the putter for added perimeter weighting and increased stability.

Crafted from anodized 6061 aluminium, a raised, curved centre section the same width of a golf ball creates visual confidence, making it easy to centre the ball at address. Three contrasting black sightlines provide clear alignment with the hole.

Spider GT Splitback
Geometrically shaped, Splitback’s soft 304 stainless steel construction combines with urethane foam injected inside the putter head.

The split mass wing design redistributes mass around the perimeter in order to maximize MOI and stability. Chambers within the wings are filled with feel foam, similar to the SpeedFoam material used in the P·770 and P·790 irons. Taylormade say this helps fill the voids and dampen vibrations, resulting in better sound and feel.

Spider GT Splitback also incorporates TaylorMade’s True Path™ ball alignment and stroke visualisation aid which is highly visible and seamlessly integrated into the head. The contrasting white section, black sightline and arrow-shaped rear edge help golfers visualise their putting stroke and ball path before ever executing the putt.

The Spider GT is offered in 33, 34, 35inch lengths. The Spider GT Notchback, Rollback and Splitback are offered in 34 and 35inch lengths.
