A New Frontier of Performance

16 Apr 2019

TaylorMade touts a revolution in the fourth generation of its high-performance line, the new M5 and M6 irons. These cavity backed game improvement clubs feature a multitude of tech with the sole aim of delivering distance and forgiveness with enhanced sound and feel.

There’s no mistaking the M5 and M6 irons, since you won’t miss that strip of steel TaylorMade has dubbed the Speed Bridge unifying the top and bottom perimeter of the club. The slant of that structural beam is by deliberate design that took four years in development. Speed Bridge stiffens the exact area of the club most prone to vibration, improving sound and feel with increased ball speed. It also synergistically unites the company’s most iconic technologies to deliver performance for players of all levels.

A redesigned Speed Pocket allows more face flexibility than before along with optimal spin, maximising distance especially low on the face where impact happens for most golfers. And because of Speed Bridge strengthening the outer perimeter of the club around the back, Speed Pocket is now able to sport a thru-slot design, leaving the lower half of the club face unsupported and free to flex more than was previously possible.

Cavity backed cast irons aren’t known for having the best sound and feel, TaylorMade’s dual solution is via the Speed Bridge stiffened topline that reduces head vibrations and the HYBRAR multi-material badge directly behind the lower deflection area of the Speed Pocket, allowing for quicker activation at impact and tuning out unwanted face vibrations more efficiently for a soft and solid feel.

M5 Irons

The more compact of the two, the M5 irons come in a shape designed for players preferring a traditional look. Mid handicap to better players seeking performance will gravitate towards the M5’s clean, compact appearance at address, as evidenced by the fluted hosel which has indentations only on the underside and positioned away from view.

High launching shots are easier through a lowered centre of gravity achieved by the combination of a very thin face, the fluted hosel, a 360-degree undercut. Tungsten weighting in the toe section of the 4 to 7 irons further enhances an already low CG and additional forgiveness in the shorter compact head. Besides adding to the cleaner look at address, a new leading edge chamfer aids in a cleaner entry into the turf for exceptionally crisp ball striking.

The M5 irons will be offered in 4-AW & SW and come equipped with N.S Pro 930 GH steel or Kuro Kage TM6 shafts, along with custom shaft options.

M6 Irons

For the average player seeking straighter accuracy and distance, the ultra-forgiving M6 irons could just be the ticket. A powerful muscular design and increased offset inspires a can’t-miss confidence at address.

Because the irons are higher launching, expect slightly stronger lofts on the M6 for better distance. The extremely low CG and thru-slot of the Speed Pocket is what produces the higher penetrating ball flight even for mis-hits low on the face. Additionally, a high Moment of Inertia (MOI) for stability and forgiveness makes the iron easy to play.

The M6 iron optimises an ultra-thin face design with TaylorMade’s Inverted Cone Technology (ICT) for a larger and more accurate sweet spot. Pairing the flexible and fast thin face with the ICT, which uses varying thicknesses, increases ball speeds over the larger face area.

For enhanced playability around the greens, new wedges specifically designed for the mid to high handicapper have been added to the M6 iron set.

The M6 irons come equipped with Reax85 JP steel shafts or Fubuki TM6 graphite shafts. For women, the M6 irons will come equipped with the TaylorMade Tuned Performance shaft.
