Callaway Super Hybrid

12 Nov 2019

Long irons were quickly made obsolete with the advent and eventual widespread acceptance of the hybrid. As long iron replacements, they were easier to launch high and more forgiving to hit even out of the rough. That is the hybrid defined, until now.

Callaway’s Super Hybrid is actually a fairway wood disguised in the size and shape of a hybrid; the result of a challenge from CEO and president Chip Brewer to his R&D guys. At 143 cubic centimeters, the Super Hybrid is about a third larger than regular hybrids with multi-material technology not yet featured in Callaway’s fairway woods.

With its larger size, the Super Hybrid settles in between fairway woods and hybrids. The smaller shape may make it more visually appealing for better players over a fairway wood. At the other end could be the average player who finds security and strength in the bulk compared to the smaller sized hybrids currently available.

“This is one we’re really excited about,” said Dave Neville, Callaway’s senior director of brand management. “It’s really fairway wood power in a hybrid, mostly directed at a better player but also extending out with the 23-degree to a game-improvement player. It’s a club we feel is going to be as long or longer than a lot of the fairway woods that might be in your bag but provide more versatility.”

Incredible Ball Speed and Optimised Ball Flight From Titanium Construction

The high-strength Titanium Face Insert creates fast ball speeds across the face while promoting optimised spin and ball flight designed to maximize distance. And the two internal Jailbreak Bars stiffen the stronger all-titanium body, placing more impact load on the Face Insert for amazingly fast ball speed. Together, these technologies are engineered for a hybrid that delivers the performance of a fairway wood.

Consistent Launch From An All-Titanium Body With Low CG

The all-titanium body strengthens construction while redistributing weight for a precisely placed Center-of-Gravity with consistent, penetrating launch.

Enhanced Launch and Trajectory Control From Metal Injection Molded Tungsten Weighting

A substantially higher volume of Metal Injection Molded (MIM’ed) tungsten weight has been precisely placed to optimize CG for launch and control.

Controlled Launch And Forgiveness From A T2C Triaxial Carbon Crown

New, lighter triaxial carbon fabric has a tighter weave; the weight it saves versus a steel crown is redistributed within the head to lower the CG for a controlled launch, and to raise MOI for consistent distance on off-center hits.

Optimized Adjustability and Control

New, lighter OptiFit 3 Hosel makes it even easier to dial in your launch and optimal ball flight.

The Super Hybrid comes in lofts of 17°, 20°, and 23° and is available in both RH/LH with a stock shaft of the Mitsubishi CK Pro Orange 80.
