After the first black Vokey SM7 wedges appeared on Tour, Titleist started getting requests for all-black irons to go with the wedges. The resulting AP2 and AP3 black editions sold out in a matter of days.

That first bite of the black cherry has emboldened the company to once again embark on project black. Following the recent release of the Vokey SM8 Black Limited wedges, Titleist now brings to market for a limited time the T-Series T100S and T200 player’s distance irons in a high polish black PVD coating complemented by a glare-reducing matte black shaft; the DG Onyx AMT Black on the T100S, or the Project X LZ Onyx on the T200. The Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip caps off the all-black look.

Two-time Tour winner Cameron Smith who won the Sony Open in Hawaii playing the T100 Black irons said, “The first time I saw these irons they looked so good I didn’t want to put a scratch on them. The black finish just looks tighter to me and really fits my eye. It also helps to keep a little bit of the shine off which I really like.”

Lanto Griffin put a set in his bag after seeing Smith’s black T100’s on Instagram, and went on to win the Houston Open.

Beyond the cosmetics, the T100S irons are a fully forged player’s distance iron, designed to deliver tour-level precision and feel in 2-degree stronger lofts than the T100 for longer distance. Each iron has been individually calibrated with thinner faces to give better players the added distance to score lower, while preserving the feel and precision required for superior shot shaping.

66 grams of tungsten is co-forged into the heel and toe areas of the mid to long irons to boost forgiveness and a higher launch. The enhanced camber on the sole improves turf interaction. The T100S also features a thin topline, minimal offset, and progressive blade lengths.

In the player-shaped T200, the 4 to 7 irons carries even more tungsten, 90 grams in the heel and toe creates a higher MOI, lowering the CG for higher launch and less spin. Max Impact incorporates a polymer core supported thin clubface which flexes more at impact, creating higher ball speeds while retaining player preferred sound and feel.
