Over $820,000 Raised In A Swing For Hope

The Swing For Hope: NKF Charity Golf 2023 was held on 11 August, Friday at Tanah Merah Country Club, Tampines Course with Professor S. Jayakumar, former Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Minister as our Guest-of-Honour.

The event saw 120 golfers tee-off in good spirit and weather. This year’s Hole-In-One prizes included a Mercedes-Benz C200 Sports Edition, Leica SL2 with 3 Lenses and IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42, much to the keen anticipation of the golfers.

Additional attractive prizes also awaited golfers in the Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin Challenge during their game. Golf professional Ms Khee Jiali was on hand to share tips and raise more funds in the Beat The Pro segment. Special treats were arranged at the Halfway House this year with local-flavoured infused pizzas served straight from a food truck, along with refreshing cold beer and wines to beat the heat.

While no golfer laid claim to the Hole-In-One prizes, Mr Hong Weiren won the Longest Drive Challenge at 251m, while Ms Ester Ling claimed the title for the Nearest to the Pin Challenge at 2.5m. The tournament, which was based on the Individual Stableford Double Peoria handicap system, was won by overall tournament champion Mr Lim Chung Chay with 37 points OCB, while the 1st runner-up position went to Mr Dennis Seah with  Mr Eli Lau close behind as the 2nd runner-up. The best flight went to Peak Top Engineering Pte Ltd (Flight 15B), with a total of 105 points.

Over dinner, in a bid to raise more funds for patients, golfers and guests partook in a silent auction comprising specially curated paintings, collectibles, staycations and many more interesting items.

With over 61 lucky draw prizes exciting guests and golfers, the grand prize – a pair of Singapore Airlines Business Class Return Tickets to Seoul, South Korea -was won by Mr Koh Liang Choon.

Local band Nation One took to the stage with a selection of classic evergreen tunes while the guests enjoyed their dinner. The evening also saw the announcement of Mr Arthur Tay, Chairman and CEO of SUTL, as NKF’s Charity Ambassador. Mr Tay will be advocating, supporting and inspiring others to support NKF’s cause over the next 2 years.

Through the collective generosity of golfers, sponsors, donors and partners, over $820,000 was raised to support kidney failure patients in need and alleviate their financial burden. Without subsidy, haemodialysis treatments can set a patient back more than $2,500 a month.

Presently, more than 300,000 people in Singapore suffer from chronic kidney disease, and many more remain undiagnosed because symptoms remain silent until the final stages.
