06 Jun 2016

Tall sights are set for the Mizuno Golf School who plan to go regional by 2018 as it opens its second golf school which was unveiled at the Nilai Springs Golf and Country Club. Speaking at the launch of the school was David Leow, General Manager of Mizuno Pte Ltd who announced that Mizuno is hoping to achieve a regional presence in terms of golf schools by 2018. “End of May, my team and I will be flying down to Jakarta, working together with the Triputra Group where we will be announcing the partnership with Triputra and Mizuno Golf School. August, we would be going down to Sri Lanka, where we will be opening another golf school there. Next in would be Vietnam and probably Myanmar. So hopefully we would be able to go regional by 2018,” he said in response to questions about the expansion of Mizuno golf school. Leow remarked that the Mizuno method of training golfers has birthed strong amateur players like Singapore golfer Ryan Wong. The manager also stated that Mizuno would be sponsoring “deserving” junior golfers at Nilai with equipment till they reach the professional level.

“Ryan Wong, Mizuno’s own real life example trained with Mizuno method since 7-8 years old. Now at 17, he’s the youngest on the Singapore Golf Association Team and ranked 4th in the whole of Singapore. Also, I
would like to announce that Mizuno will sponsor deserving junior golfers from Nilai Springs Golf Academy with equipment until they reach the professional level. This is something I believe Mizuno can contribute” Leow added that he is looking forward to a Malaysian being sent to compete in the Mizuno Dream Cup, an annual event which would see the winner being able to compete in the Mizuno Open, a professional golf tournament event.

The Nilai Springs Golf Academy will consist of 3 golfing professionals led by pro golfer Lee Kyu Ho who holds memberships in the Korean, Singaporean and Malaysian PGA’s. Lee first began his professional career in Korea in 2003 and has previously played in several tours in the US including the Pepsi Tour and Golden State Tour. Also present at the launch was YBhg Datuk Eng Hong, Group Managing Director of Nilai Resources Group Sdn Bhd who expressed support for the development of golfers in the town. “Certainly from the university side we would be very happy to offer scholarships for any golfers that go through our academy at an international level for Malaysia.

We would provide whatever is necessary to groom a local champion. Nilai Group has always believed that we’re not just a developer here but we want to build a community in this town and in a community it is important for us to have people we can look up to in Malaysia and internationally,” he replied in response to the developer’s commitments to the academy. Lessons at Nilai Springs Golf Academy are available from RM1800 onwards for 10 lessons. Interested parties may contact the Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club at +606 7850-8888.
