Asian Tour Yearbook: 2023
want to crush people and that’s what I try to do. I’m super competitive and every day is a new tournament for me. “I don’t think I could hit it much better than I did this week. The greens were super bumpy so it’s hard to tell exactly how my putting was, but I was pleased with how I played and my speed control coming down the stretch was awesome. My game was in a really good spot against a world-class field. So, super honoured to play the way I did.” Even after having time to reflect on his season, Ogletree said at the end of the year: “Newcastle was probably the win that I will remember the most. It was a stacked field and there were many LIV players there. The conditions were brutal, and I did not have the best start, but I don’t think I put a step wrong after that opening round.” England’s Poulter saved his best for the last, and the seven-under 64 helped him soar to second place at 9-under 275. That was one shot better than the third-placed Anirban Lahiri of India and nine better than son Luke, who finished as the top amateur in tied 22nd place. “I just kind of found the key to hitting a few putts on these greens, which I didn’t have the first three days. And you know, when you do that and you play good golf like I played the first three days, then you will be able to make some birdies. And that’s what I did today. I made quite a few birds,” said Poulter (69-70-72-64), whose last win was in the 2018 Houston Open. Lahiri (70-69-69-68), searching for his first win in eight years during which time he finished second on numerous occasions, including thrice on LIV Golf in 2023, was frustrated by his putter on Sunday. “I think that was probably top-three ball-striking round of the year for me. I would rate it better than my Saturday at Bedminster and the Sunday in Adelaide. My control of the ball in the air, my distance control everything was spot on. I drove it phenomenally. Three-under is the absolute worst score I could have shot. Honestly, if my dad putted for me, we would have shot a 65,” said the Indian ace. Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter [FAR LEFT] were paired together on the first two days. Anirban Lahiri [LEFT] finished in outright third. 89 I N T ER NAT IONA L SER I E S ENGL A ND C LO S E H O U S E , N EWC A S T L E | AU G U S T 1 7 - 2 0 | P R I Z E MON E Y U S $ 2 M I L L I ON
