Asian Tour Yearbook - 2022

A costly dropped shot on the final hole saw Travis Smyth (FAR LEFT) finished one back from Scott Vincent. Joohyung Kim and Justin Harding (ABOVE) were paired together in the final group on day three. Sadom Kaewkanjana (LEFT) showed his class once again by finishing solo third. It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot and can’t wait to be in that position again. -TRAVIS SMYTH 7 1 turns continued as Smyth, from an awkward lie, pushed his approach into a greenside bunker from where he was unable to get up- and-down. Vincent, meanwhile, wedged to the front of the green but came up short with his long-range birdie attempt. With the title and US$360,000 first prize on the line, he showed a steely resolve, holing out for a 66 and a winning total of 12-under 272. Smyth was philosophical after missing out on a maiden Asian Tour title. He said: “Coming into the week I just wanted to play solid. I didn’t have any expectations. It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot and I can’t wait to be in that position again.” Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana claimed third place on 275 followed by South African Justin Harding and to reigning Asian Tour number one, Joohyung Kim from Korea. American Sihwan Kim, winner of the inaugural International Series event in Thailand three months earlier, tied for sixth. Among other notables in the field were Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell, the 2010 US Open champion, who shared 15th place. The International Series England also saw five golfers earn their spot at the following week’s US$25 million LIV Invitational Series at Centurion Club outside London. Smyth and Indian Viraj Madappa claimed berths as the two highest-finishers from the Slaley Hall event who were not otherwise exempt. South African Ian Snyman, Australian Kevin Yuan and Thailand’s Itthipat Buranatanyarat joined them, having qualified from the cumulative International Series Order of Merit. Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner & CEO, Asian Tour, said: “The International Series England was a landmark event for the Asian Tour, providing our members with a great opportunity to compete internationally in an exciting, new location. “An incredibly strong field assembled for the tournament – a reflection of the appetite our members have for the International Series – and also allowed us to showcase the Asian Tour’s depth in world-class talent to European fans. We’ve received enormous interest from international players wanting to be part of the Asian Tour, having seen our growth over the past few months.” I N T E R N AT I O N A L S E R I E S E N G L A N D S L A LE Y HA LL HOTE L , S PA & GO LF R E SORT | J UN E 2- 5, 2022 | P R IZE MON E Y US$2 M I LLI ON
