EYE ON THE BALL
WHY IS GOLF “THE” SPORT FOR BMW?
BMW is constantly looking to create unique moments of joy and excitement for our customers.
Whether it be through our products or experiences, we aim to establish an exciting long-term relationship with each customer. Sports is one format that has given us this opportunity. It allows us to connect with our customers, create a community and forge lasting memories.
This is what we believe separates us from the rest and makes us more than just another car company. If you own a BMW, you’re automatically in relationship with the brand that will be there for you throughout your ownership journey and your life. Golf, in particular, is one sport that aligns with some of our strongest values of precision, skill and efficiency.
Furthermore, golf supports our belief that success is created by the mind and the right focus and attitude.
In Singapore, and the BMW Asia region as a whole, golf is one of our key engagement activities as it is very close to our heart and the hearts of our customers. Golf has both a competitive and social element to it, and we love spending time with customers and fans to experience our shared passion for the sport.
HOW LONG HAS BMW BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH GOLF?
The BMW brand has been synonymous with Golf for more than 40 years, through local partnerships and our very own BMW Golf Cup. This exciting event enables BMW customers to be part of a worldwide international tournament, where they have a chance to represent their country.
BMW Golf Cup has a history that begins in 1982, with the first World Final taking place in 1995. It is currently the largest international amateur tournament series that has hosted more than 800 qualifying tournaments and over 100,000 participating players in more than 40 countries.
Amateur golfers from each participating country get together annually to compete in their National Final for a chance at the BMW Golf Cup World Final. This takes place on world-class courses, with curated experiences, and special appearances by major world champions. Thirty-four nations took part in our 2023 World Final in South Africa, and we expect even more in the 2024 World Final that is set to be held in Bangkok, Thailand this March.
For 2024, not only Singapore will take part, but also other markets in our region, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and Guam.
DO YOU HAVE TO BE A CUSTOMER TO JOIN?
We are happy to welcome everyone to take part in our Social Play Days, but to compete for the national title and represent Singapore on the international stage at the BMW Golf Cup World Final, this privilege is reserved only for our customers.
In general, our most exclusive experiences, be it overseas Drives, Racetracks, golf trips or other travels are created exclusively for our customers.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2024 SEASON?
To start off with, we had amazing partnerships with brands such as Titleist and FootJoy, to ensure we win in style and with the best equipment.
The BMW Golf Cup World Final, held in March 2024 at the Fancourt Golf Resort in South Africa, was one of the most colorful and joyful tournaments ever and our Singaporean participants performed extraordinarily well. Another new initiative we introduced in 2024 was hosting a dinner with the former and present National Winners from Singapore to help them create new connections and hand down learnings and experiences from 2023, and train together in a full day golf clinic with golf Pro, Justin Kang, to provide new insights.
This was done to make sure our new Singapore winners feel prepared for future competitions in the best possible way. On the local front, we participated in corporate tournaments and social games, and our two dealer partners actively participated in monthly medals at various golf clubs, in-tournament activations, and created unique events for those new to the sport.
We flew customers around the world for various golf activities, most notably the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea, which included time behind the wheel of our latest vehicles at the BMW Driving Centre in Incheon. And finally, we held our BMW Golf Cup National Final in Singapore with more than 1,500 participants in attendance.
WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2025?
There is a lot in the making this year!
First, we aim to make our BMW Golf Series in Singapore even bigger than 2024, where we had golfers take part in the several golf qualifications and tournaments. Second, we are currently developing two new formats to bring even more Golf Joy and Golf
Fascination to Singapore. One of these will be a “Drive and Golf” format that will bring our customers to exciting golf courses throughout Malaysia whenever they feel like taking a break with beautiful cars and beautiful courses.
The other format, which will hopefully happen before we kick off our new golf season 2025, will combine charity and golf and will be the first of its kind in Singapore, if not in Southeast Asia. In addition, BMW Eurokars Auto will be unveiling the next chapter in their golf journey in the coming months, an exclusive drive and golfing retreat to the scenic greens of Desaru. Imagine the serene beauty of rolling fairways, the soothing sea breeze, and the excitement of every perfect swing—all complemented by the unmistakable driving pleasure of a BMW.
And to elevate their BMW ownership experience, Performance Motors is developing engagement activities that revolve around customers’ passion points of golf and driving. Under our Performance Motors Golf Association (PMGA), PML is organising highly-anticipated overseas golf trips, including an upcoming one to Guangzhou, China in March 2025.
We still have a few more ideas in the pipeline, together with our dealer partners, so stay tuned for more!
IF I’M A GOLFER AND WANT TO GET INVOLVED, WHAT DO I DO?
You can approach either of our Dealer Partners, Eurokars Auto or Performance Motors Limited, at any time to help you apply for the 2025 Golf Season.
If you’re already a BMW customer, I highly recommend that you indicate your interest in golf, regardless if you are an experienced golfer or are interested to try it out for the first time, via https:// cloud.email.bmwasia.com/register_golf_2025.
HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING?
I’m a relatively “new” player to the sport and have only been playing for four years. I picked up the sport while I was based in Dubai, Middle East before arriving in Singapore. After an involuntary break due to COVID, I’ve been able to play more regularly. I even managed to get my wife and children hooked on golf as well, which allows me to spend more time with them and makes playing a lot easier.
Personally, I found the learning curve of getting into golf a bit steep, and needed to invest some effort upfront, but both my family and I have found the learning journey very rewarding in the end.
I am now geeking out over equipment, making new friends and enjoying the wonderful experiences of being outside and active.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BEST GOLF EXPERIENCE TO DATE?
BMW Golf Cup World Final at Fancourt in South Africa. The event was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. It was the perfect combination of an actual tournament (yes, the players are really representing their countries!) and a lifestyle event.
I got to meet like-minded people with a passion for driving pleasure and golf from all over the world. The mood and environment were extremely friendly and welcoming! Most players opted to bring along their partners or spouses, who we took very good care of while the tournament was running.
There was even a Guest Golf Cup that the accompanying partners/spouses could participate in.
IF THERE WAS ONE COURSE YOU WANTED TO PLAY ON, WHICH WOULD IT BE? WHY?
At this point in time, I do not have a specific dreamcourse to play on (maybe I am still too new at this?). I am just eager to try out different courses and with Singapore as a base, there are A LOT of options to explore throughout the region.
As I mentioned earlier, the social element of playing with friends, family and business partners, is always an excellent experience no matter where and which course you play on.
