EMPOWERING LIVES, TOUCHING HEARTS
SICC May Day Charity 2024 raises $1.4m for charities.
The Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) raised $1.4m through its annual SICC May Day Charity, holding a comprehensive array of activities, including fringe events, a golf day involving English Premier League (EPL) legends, a golf tournament, and gala dinner held on Wednesday on 1.
This year, the SICC May Day Charity initiative extend its support to 10 beneficiaries across various sectors, including health, community support, children’s welfare, and elderly care. The funds raised will directly benefit the list of charity organisations who are at the heart of our cause. From providing essential resources to supporting vital programs and initiatives, every dollar raised can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
The focal point was the charity golf tournament. Over 420 golfers participated in the golf tournament, played on both the Club’s New Course and Bukit Course, vying for hole-in-one cars and other attractive prizes.
Guest of Honour and Patron of the SICC May Day Charity 2024, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, was present to preside over the evening’s gala dinner. During the event, the President also presented tokens of appreciation to sponsors and partners. The audience was treated to a musical item by performers from one of the 10 Beneficiaries, Life Community Services Society. This was followed by a captivating performance featuring Ms Adele Wee and The Take Five, much to the enjoyment of all in attendance.
Mr How Seen Yong, the SICC Club Captain and Organising Chairman of the SICC May Day Charity 2024, extended a warm welcome to attendees at the Gala Dinner. He also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to sponsors and donors for their generous support in uplifting the underserved segments of society.
In his speech to the guests, Club Captain Mr How Seen Yong said, “This year, under the theme – “Empowering Lives, Touching Hearts”, our journey takes on special significance in a world filled with uncertainty. It symbolises the unwavering positivity and resilience that both you and SICC can bring to our beneficiary organisations and their clients.”
Apart from the charity golf tournament and corporate sponsorships, SICC’s Food & Beverage, Lifestyle, and Sports fraternities have curated a range of fringe activities for Members throughout April and May. Ranging from swim carnivals to fitness challenges, these initiatives offer Members diverse avenues to support our causes in their preferred ways. These activities are set to continue until May 31, 2024.
The SICC May Day Charity drive is an annual tradition of the club to raise funds for our beneficiaries. Beginning in 1972 with a group of golfers coming together to raise funds through a golf game, it has since evolved to be a Club- wide effort involving all other sports and interest groups in fringe fundraising activities. The charity event has since raised more than $25 million to support social service programmes, benefiting large sections of the underprivileged.
