A Reinvigoration Of Golf Tourism In The Land of Smiles

Driven by the recent success of the Phuket edition of Amazing Thailand Social Golf 2022, the hotly anticipated Bangkok edition followed suit a few months later in July. All places were quickly snapped up for the special deal put together by the Tourism Authority of Thailand Singapore (TAT) to reinvigorate golf tourism in the Land of Smiles.

The not-to-be-missed limited offer starting from $1,128, was a 5-day-4-night golf extravaganza featuring 3 rounds of golf inclusive of lunch. Play was at top-notch courses like Alpine Golf Club, Amata Springs Country Club and Siam Country Club Bangkok, with accommodation at the newly renovated Montien Hotel Surawong Bangkok and daily breakfast. Also included in the package was a Qi Foot Detoxify massage at Divana Spa, compliments from TAT Singapore.

From 24 to 28 July, a total of 128 golfers descended on Bangkok without the hassle of pre-departure and on-arrival COVID-19 tests. The free and easy first day saw participants check in to the comforts of the Montien Hotel Surawong Bangkok, located along the lively streets of Surawong and Silom in the heart of the city. A landmark destination adored by royalty, film stars and global travellers, Montien is a modern-day lap of luxury featuring timeless Thai designs.

With time on their hands, golfers naturally made a beeline for landmarks such as Chinatown and Bangkok’s largest golf retail centre Thaniya Plaza, just minutes away from the hotel, with a charming abundance of bustling market stalls, massage joints, fine-dining spots and playful night entertainment venues along the way.

Amazing Thailand Social Golf 2022 began with a big bang at the renowned Alpine Golf Club. This challenging 6,500-metre championship course with significant elevation changes and world-class design promised golfers an unforgettable experience, especially with its daunting island green par-4 on the 11th, signature par-3 on the 12th and a Double or Nothing par-5 on the 7th.

Another famed golfing landmark followed. Amata Spring Country Club, one of the most revered clubs in Asia, features distinctive playing features that test the games of the world’s best, with power play required on the longer front 9 and accuracy for a hazard-filled back 9. The par-3 17th with its signature floating green hole is the only one of its kind in Asia, accessible only by boat.

The fitting finale to the trip came at the new Siam Country Club Bangkok with its expansive grand clubhouse, a nod to the original in Pattaya, home of the Honda LPGA Thailand. Golfers were in for a treat at the 7,250-yard championship masterpiece, a hybrid links course featuring fairways with soft rolling slopes and potted grass face bunkers – the biggest of which is “Big Ass”, a 3-metre deep potted bunker just left of the 1,000sqm green on the par-3 18th hole.

Amazing Thailand Social Golf 2022 Bangkok added even more value with lucky draws at the end of each day’s golf, with prizes that ranged from golf flights to hotel stays and wireless earbuds, courtesy of the generous participating venues and TAT.
