The SCWO Charity Golf and Dinner 2024 raised over $300,000 for good causes.

The Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) hosted its highly anticipated second Charity Golf and Dinner on 17 July, marking a day filled with camaraderie, philanthropy, and a shared commitment to gender equality. Held at the prestigious Sentosa Golf Club, the event brought together a vibrant community of golfers, supporters, and advocates who joined hands to support SCWO’s mission.

The day kicked off with a golf tournament, where 136 participants under glorious sunshine, united by a common purpose to raise funds for the initiatives spearheaded by SCWO. The event saw teams from various organisations and industries teeing off in support of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Singapore.

The golf event was made especially engaging with a variety of novelty games and activations that kept the excitement high throughout the day. Participants had the opportunity to challenge their skills in the “Beat the Pro” mini-tournament, where golfers could test their prowess against a professional. The event also featured competitions like Nearest to Pin, Longest Drive, and the thrilling Hole-in- One challenges on four of the par-3 holes. Additionally, a golf simulator game for Nearest to Pin added a fun, high-tech element to the experience, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

After the sun set, guests were treated to a grand dinner, entertainment, and inspiring speeches. Guest of Honour, Mr. Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Health, and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, delivered an impactful speech that resonated deeply with the audience. He emphasised the importance of continued efforts towards gender equality in Singapore and praised the SCWO’s dedication to this cause.

Dr. Seow Yian San, the new President of SCWO, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of the community and highlighting the importance of taking small yet significant steps toward gender equality. “We’ve begun to raise daughters more like sons… but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters,” said Dr Seow, a dentist, urging everyone to rethink societal norms and embrace the courage to drive change.

The evening also featured a charity auction, where 182 dinner guests had the opportunity to bid on an array of exclusive items, generously donated by SCWO’s partners and supporters, including an autographed Taylor Swift album and guitar. The auction, along with the funds raised during the day, will go a long way in supporting SCWO’s various initiatives, including SAGE 2024, which aims to foster dialogue and action on pressing gender issues in the region.

An autographed guitar and album from Taylor Swift were some of the items of the charity auction.

The success of the SCWO Charity Golf and Dinner 2024 is a testament to the power of community and collective action. The event not only raised crucial funds for SCWO’s programmes but also strengthened the bonds within the community, bringing together individuals and organizations committed to making a difference. The event raised close to $310,000.00 that will go to support SCWO’s ongoing efforts.
